IPRI Welcomes Luis Videgaray as a Distinguished Fellow

Luis Videgaray, former foreign minister of Mexico and MIT alumnus, has become a distinguished fellow at the Internet Policy Research Initiative. 

At MIT, Videgaray is using his AI policy and geopolitics expertise to: 

  • Act as the director of the MIT Artificial Intelligence Policy for the World Project (MIT AIPW)
    • The goal of this project is to investigate the geopolitics of artificial intelligence by utilizing researchers across MIT. MIT AIPW will rely on three principles to help in achieving its goals: democratic values, diversity and inclusion, as well as de-escalation
    • The results of this project will assist in shaping global AI policies by producing actionable policy recommendations
  • Serve as both a distinguished fellow at IPRI and senior lecturer at MIT Sloan
    • As part of his work at MIT Sloan, Videgaray will lecture on MIT AIPW-related issues

Before this appointment, Videgaray held many other prestigious positions, including:

  • Foreign Minister of Mexico (2017-2018)
  • Finance Minister of Mexico (2012-2016)
  • President of the Institutional Revolutionary Party of the State of Mexico
