Sandro is director of the “Digital Society Institute” at the private university ESMT Berlin, founded by the German DAX-listed companies to conduct strategic research on digitalization. He is a fellow of Oxford’s Martin College, of the German Council on Foreign Relations, of EastWest Institute and a project co-lead at CNAM.

He authored the first cyber foreign policy strategy for Germany, introduced several cyber policy elements in the current grand coalition, directed a variety of cyber strategy sessions for the German Bundestag, moderated the closed interdepartmental cyber dialogues of the ministries of interior and defense, and was instrumental in the German-Chinese no-spy agreement of the German chancellery. He is involved with NATO, in cyber counterintelligence activities and directing strategic cyber military diplomacy projects in the Middle East.

For the German industries, he developed cyber insurance standards, security benchmarks and innovation strategies for smart factories and smart cars, a cyber buyer’s guide for the German Chamber of Commerce and the German SMEs, and conducted eleven systemic audits and contract hacks on industrial and embedded systems, ranging from smart guns to military radars to rail systems and cars. Sandro also founded two companies, SECURE ELEMENTS Ltd (now the JV HENSOLDT CYBER Ltd), building high assurance systems for military embedded systems, where he serves as Chief Solutions Architect, and EHMP Ltd, a military-grade penetration testing company, where he serves as (part-time) CEO. He co-founded a third company specializing on SAP-security, SERPENTEQ Ltd.
